Temp services

I was on the job bank site this afternoon, not much there to give me any sort of hope, everything is through temp services, and by and large crappy wages. It's really an employers game in the maritime provinces, there are so many of us looking for work that it's easy for them to set the terms. Enter the temp agency. Since the advent of these jerks, guys like me who want to get into any company have to work through a temp agency first. Everytime they tell you "you work through us for a year and then you get hired full time" Here's what they don't tell you: 1) Often times they will ask the company for money to buy out your contract with them, and of course the company will often refuse, so the only way to get hired is te leave the temp agency for 6 months, and apply through the company itself, problem is many companies only hire through agencies. 2) Why would the comany hire you to do the same job when it can pay you peanuts, and not have to give you benefits, R.R.S.P's and the like. 3) The full time people will likely treat you like bags of crap, as they feel superior to you, and also threatened by you (as they worry they may be replaced by cheap temp labour) 4)You can be and sometimes are let go without notice (a fellow i know was given 20 minutes notice that he was being laid off, the management knew for two weeks, but didn't tell the temps as they felt that they might damage things or steal to get even)5) you will always be under more scrutiny than full time employees (if anything goes missing or is broken, you will be the first to be accused) 6) The temp agency is likely make at least 5 dollars off the top of your wages to have you there working.

The real point of all this is that the temp services, in my opinion are ruining the job market in the maritimes, we are forced to live without benefits for ourselves and our familes, without a decent wage, and without respect from our co-workers, all this while someone sits in an office and takes a part of our earnings, for doing nothing. All this with the promise of a full time position in the future that never materialises
