I'm at odds with the political field as it stands in Canada right now, The liberals are tainted with scandal, The conservatives are trying to undo much of the human rights work the liberals actually accomplished (possible conservative slogan: (big print) "Standing up for canada"...(small print)"the term canada in this context does not include gay, lesbian, bi-sexual,two-spirited or any derivative of the above not mentioned") I understand Stephen Harper wishes to undo the decision allowing marital rights to gay couples...In all honesty what does it really matter, why can't we all; be equal, stop seeing differences, and mind our own business. Perhaps this isnt the most progressive opinion, but it is really none of my business who marries who, who has sex with who, or otherwise. Even if you want to take it a step farther theologically, i don't see how it's anyones business but that person and God. I admit this issue doesnt hit me on a personal level, i don't see all the sides, as i'm neither gay, nor a religious zealot. But i imagine that love is love, everyone deserves that someone to lean on,trust, feel comfortable with. Basic human right if you ask me.
The real irony (not so much of an Alanis Morrisette irony) is that most political figures stay tied to their party's ideology, but may not always agree with all that is said. Maybe a truer form of democratic government is needed. Sure we vote for a party, but then they get to power and make all the decisions by their standard, where justice and liberty and basic rights might better be served with the populus invloved..maybe? Or do we prefer to leave it to someone else?
