A dull interlude into the synapses of a canadian country boy living in the "city" and trying to figure out the future of our nation....like sex and the city (my wife made me watch it), but without the sex, women, money, prestige, fashion, and famous people..(mostly just the city)

Temp services
I was on the job bank site this afternoon, not much there to give me any sort of hope, everything is through temp services, and by and large crappy wages. It's really an employers game in the maritime provinces, there are so many of us looking for work that it's easy for them to set the terms. Enter the temp agency. Since the advent of these jerks, guys like me who want to get into any company have to work through a temp agency first. Everytime they tell you "you work through us for a year and then you get hired full time" Here's what they don't tell you: 1) Often times they will ask the company for money to buy out your contract with them, and of course the company will often refuse, so the only way to get hired is te leave the temp agency for 6 months, and apply through the company itself, problem is many companies only hire through agencies. 2) Why would the comany hire you to do the same job when it can pay you peanuts, and not have to give you benefits, R.R.S.P's and the like. 3) The full time people will likely treat you like bags of crap, as they feel superior to you, and also threatened by you (as they worry they may be replaced by cheap temp labour) 4)You can be and sometimes are let go without notice (a fellow i know was given 20 minutes notice that he was being laid off, the management knew for two weeks, but didn't tell the temps as they felt that they might damage things or steal to get even)5) you will always be under more scrutiny than full time employees (if anything goes missing or is broken, you will be the first to be accused) 6) The temp agency is likely make at least 5 dollars off the top of your wages to have you there working.
The real point of all this is that the temp services, in my opinion are ruining the job market in the maritimes, we are forced to live without benefits for ourselves and our familes, without a decent wage, and without respect from our co-workers, all this while someone sits in an office and takes a part of our earnings, for doing nothing. All this with the promise of a full time position in the future that never materialises

Here comes the horse s#*t
I'm at odds with the political field as it stands in Canada right now, The liberals are tainted with scandal, The conservatives are trying to undo much of the human rights work the liberals actually accomplished (possible conservative slogan: (big print) "Standing up for canada"...(small print)"the term canada in this context does not include gay, lesbian, bi-sexual,two-spirited or any derivative of the above not mentioned") I understand Stephen Harper wishes to undo the decision allowing marital rights to gay couples...In all honesty what does it really matter, why can't we all; be equal, stop seeing differences, and mind our own business. Perhaps this isnt the most progressive opinion, but it is really none of my business who marries who, who has sex with who, or otherwise. Even if you want to take it a step farther theologically, i don't see how it's anyones business but that person and God. I admit this issue doesnt hit me on a personal level, i don't see all the sides, as i'm neither gay, nor a religious zealot. But i imagine that love is love, everyone deserves that someone to lean on,trust, feel comfortable with. Basic human right if you ask me.
The real irony (not so much of an Alanis Morrisette irony) is that most political figures stay tied to their party's ideology, but may not always agree with all that is said. Maybe a truer form of democratic government is needed. Sure we vote for a party, but then they get to power and make all the decisions by their standard, where justice and liberty and basic rights might better be served with the populus invloved..maybe? Or do we prefer to leave it to someone else?

Moving day..
I'm supposed to be helping a guy move right now, it's really early(for me), i'm tired, and not wanting to be active. But promises were made and so i do my best to work up the neccesary energy to do this thing. The only current glitch is that some dudes were supposed to meet me beforehand and as of yet have not showed. Which is the chief reason i'm sitting here writing. So just to kill some time, what's topical? what can i jaw on about for two or three lines....
I did feel that the non confidence vote in parliament was ill-timed, with the polls showing the liberals ahead it seems to me that if harper really wanted to win he could have waited a bit, but i suppose he was hoping to use the gomery inquiry to his advantage. problem thers is most folks already forgot about it, or in my case don't really fathom the whole problem. Screw it, i'm voting NDP again...

Lost without spell check...
I rely a little too much on my word processor i think... it's been awhile since i really noticed how badly i spell without a spell checker. (good God, they'll think me a fool!)
Whatever it all means
It's a vicious circle really, often times we are made to believe that really all we have is our jobs, society defines us by what we do for a living, how much we make, and where we make it. To preface this i should state that i hate my job, not so much because of what i do, but because of stupidity. Honestly does everyone out there "f" something up and blame others for it? there seems no sense of responsiblity out there in the upper echelons of blue collar society (i'm a lower echelon kind of cat) so as if it was a law of physics the crap falls down the ladder. A friend once told me that business is like climbing a tree full of monkeys at the zoo, all the crap falls on the guy at the bottom, and when he looks up all he sees are assholes. Bah! enough venting......for now
